The Place of Worship in Beaussais, a church from the 12th
century, whose choir is listed as an ancient monument, was handed over to
protestants by the Concordat in 1803. The Poitevin Protestant House tells the Reformation story, mainly in Poitou, from the precursors to the Repeal of Nantes Edict in 1685. It presents the organization and function of the Protestant Church in France and Poitou in the 20th century. The Place of Worship in La Couarde, built in 1904, just before the disestablishment of Church and State, presents the life during the "Désert". The Désert is the period prohibiting protestants from practising their religion from the Repeal to Revolution. Hughenot circuit available at the local Tourist Office. |
